The USA is heading towards the transiting Pluto square tr Uranus hitting their 13 degree Cancer Sun (on the 4 July 1776 chart in 2014). Tr Pluto opposes the USA Sun from late Feb 2014 on and off till late 2015; and tr Uranus picks up the first square to the Sun come April 2014 running on and off till Feb 2015.
Pluto in opposition to the Sun usually indicates major challenges, a stuck period followed by forced changes to pull away from old structures that no longer hold good. It’s a deconstruction and reconstruction process which is often stressed and long drawn out over eighteen months or so. Uranus square the Sun brings jolting changes, surprising events which often erupt with tensions and outbursts. Again it pulls away from the past since the old compromises don’t work anymore.
The UK has just come through this with its 10 degree Capricorn Sun which has been painful but not catastrophic. The USA may weather the storm marginally better at least initially since the natal USA Sun conjunct Jupiter always provides a minor cushion against woes. Although the USA Jupiter is being pulled down somewhat by tr Neptune trine till late 2014 which usually brings high hopes to disappointment especially financially.
There is also the proviso that since the USA Sun is natally square Saturn that starts to be seriously jolted by the tr Uranus in opposition to the US Saturn from May 2014 onwards for a year ahead, followed by the much tougher tr Pluto square the US Saturn in 2015/16 which suggests hardship, deprivation and dreary times.
So it is going to be a three year slog one way or another with tense jolts especially in 2014.

On Secondary Progressions Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune are all still retrograde and staying that way for years ahead. Saturn went retrograde by progression in 1996 when Bin Laden declared war on the USA, leading to 9/11 and the ill-judged and stratospherically expensive wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Mars went retro in 2006 with the Iraq War deteriorating and the housing bubble aiming to burst in the aftermath.
The USA First President chart, 30 April 1789 12.45pm New York, has a second pressured year of tr Pluto trine the Taurus Sun in 2014 and the really frustrating, stuck, risky tr Uranus conjunct the 8th house Mars and tr Pluto square Mars in 2014/15 – so accidents and financial woes. Tr Uranus also squares the Cancer Moon from June 2014 onwards which will see an emotionally upset population for the year thereafter.
The US Federal Reserve Bank chart has another dose of the panicky-failure tr Neptune square Mars in Jan 2014; as well as tr Neptune conjunct the Solar Arc Sun; and the tr Pluto square tr Uranus hitting on the Solar Arc Saturn Pluto by square and opposition in 2014/15 – so a generally rocky road with some slipping and sliding. Tho’ there will be moments of cheer in 2014 when tr Uranus sextiles the Fed Reserve Jupiter.
Barack Obama’s 2nd Term chart is irritable over the New Year and beyond, will have a few major wobbles from mid Feb onwards, finding expectations don’t quite work out, so disappointing especially financially and is generally in a dreary slog till late 2014.
His Solar Return at Camp David from birthday Aug 2013 to Aug 2014 did not look encouraging - very hidden, held back, not practical or pro-active, standing on swampy ground.
His own personal chart does have tr Uranus trine his Sun this year which could suggest a change of direction. Tr Saturn is heading for his Midheaven late in 2014 which can indicate a more consolidated career phase thereafter. Though of course Nixon fell on his sword with tr Saturn in his 10th so it doesn’t always produce goodies. He looks generally bouncier come 2015.
